Graphical design data for a cam having the same rise segment angle and lift was generated for a range of offset proportions in Figure S3(b) to determine the optimum offset corresponding to a maximum pressure angle of 30š.

Figure S3 (b) The same procedure was used to generate the corresponding data for the fall motion segment in Figure S3(c). [Separation of the motion segments produces data having wider application; the larger charts are easier to interpret.] The magnitude of the offset E can be found from the worksheet.

Offsetting the follower path affects every motion segment including the dwells [see contrast profile blending, 'Cam Mechanisms - Unit Design' guide , Appendix A and Section 8.8 below].
