4. Select the type of seal required

Select the type of seal, according to conditions, from the following list:

Low speed reciprocating motion use an O-ring;
Medium speed reciprocating motion use a Gland, "U" or Chevron seal;
High speed reciprocating motion use Non-contact bushing;
High speed rotating shaft use a Non-contact seal;
Low speed rotating shaft use a Gland or Lip seal;
Rotating flange use a Face seal;
No motion and accurate face location not required use a Gasket;
No motion, accurate face location required and temperature < 100^oC use an O-ring;
No motion, accurate face location required and temperature > 100^oC use a Sealant.
