4.2 Determine Mean Stresses
Mean stress is half the algebraic sum of the maximum and minimum stresses in a typical stress cycle.

Determine the mean stress for both direct and shear stresses.

Mean Direct Stress:

f m = 1/2 [f max + f min]

Mean Shear Stress:

Tm = 1/2 [Tmax + Tmin]
