To take account of the real conditions of service, apply fatigue factors to the material fatigue strength in order to de-rate the allowable stress.

The designer must estimate fatigue factors. These may include some or all of the following:

• Residual Stress
• Temperature
• Stress Concentrations
• Surface Finish
• Size
• Reliability
• Application of Factors
• Factor of Safety
