3. Common Connections
The main purpose of shaft-hub connections is to join mechanical elements, such as gears and pulleys, which are used for transmitting rotary motion between shafts. There is always a torque which is transmitted between shafts and the method of fixing the hub to the shaft is a critical part of the overall design. There are many types of connections which can be used and many detailed variations in each type.
