SEED Guides ShaftHub Connections < >

5. Specify the factors that influence the choice of connection
Each factor should be defined in terms which are as objective as possible; explain your terms and avoid ambiguity. Where appropriate, numerical ranges should be given. This helps the design engineer to decide which (if any) connections meet the requirements in all respects. When numerical values cannot be established and judgement is called for establish a means of comparison.

The most important common factors that govern the selection of shaft-hub connections are:

  1. Performance
  2. Geometry
  3. Application
  4. Reliablity
  5. Balancing
  6. Environmental conditions
  7. Commercial considerations
