5.1 Performance
The most common reason for fixing a hub to a shaft is to transmit power. Torque and speed are the main performance criteria. It is relatively unusual for a connection to also be subjected to a significant axial load but some types of hubs, bevel gears for example, cause axial loads and the connection must hold the hub in place. Axial location of the hub relative to the shaft may also need to be provided by the connection.
