Welcome to the Virtual Reality Models of Engineering Components and Artefacts!

The World Wide Web (WWW) provides access to computer libraries for training and education in engineering concepts. 2-D images of the WWW are limited in the information they convey. The new techniques of Virtual Reality (VR) allow much more information to be conveyed on the physical shape and mode of operation of the modelled entity. These pages contain examples of VR models of engineering artefacts which are intended to show the potential of the technology and provide a basis for a library of virtual engineering artefacts with the aim of introducing engineering concepts to students using the Internet. This models have been built using the new technologies of the Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) by students from the University of Bristol's Department of Mechanical Engineering. The models comprises static and dynamic 3-D models of artefacts for the WWW with which the viewer can interact.
